Engineered for Welding Smoke, Oil Mist, and Dust Collection

Industrial Ambient Air Cleaners

When source capture isn’t practical, such as facilities with overhead cranes, open production floors, or high part turnover, ambient air cleaners provide continuous whole-facility filtration. These systems recirculate shop air through high-efficiency filters, removing welding fumes, smoke, and grinding dust from your breathing zone without requiring ductwork to every workstation.

We supply multiple ambient air cleaner configurations to match your facility size, ceiling height, and application. Options include ceiling-hung units, floor-standing towers, and self-cleaning tower systems with integrated pulse-jet filter cleaning. All are designed for continuous duty operation and can be used as a primary filtration solution or as a second layer of defense alongside source capture equipment.

Filter configurations range from MERV 8 pre-filters with MERV 15 bag filters up to HEPA after-filters for facilities with stricter exposure requirements. Units can also be configured to capture oil mist in machining and metalworking environments. Optional upgrades include spark baffles, carbon panels, fire suppression, and VFD motor controls for energy savings. Units are available in vertical, horizontal, and quad mounting configurations depending on your space constraints.

Industrial Ambient Air Cleaner Options

Unit Type Airflow Mounting Filtration Best For
Ceiling-Hung Ambient Unit 1,500–5,000 CFM Ceiling hung, legs, or ducted MERV 8 pre-filter + MERV 15 main; HEPA option Welding, plasma cutting, grinding, general smoke control
Floor-Standing Ambient Tower 2,000–7,500 CFM Floor mount; vertical, horizontal, or quad MERV 8 pre-filter + MERV 15 bag; spark baffle, carbon, HEPA options Facilities without crane clearance for ceiling units; shops needing flexible placement
Self-Cleaning Ambient Tower 3,100–6,100 CFM per unit Floor mount; staggered wall placement Integrated pulse-jet cleaning system; extended filter life High-demand welding shops; 24/7 operations; facilities wanting minimal filter maintenance
High-Capacity Self-Cleaning Tower 6,000 CFM per unit Floor mount; scalable multi-unit layout Pulse-jet cleaning; fire suppression option; VFD available Large fabrication facilities, robotic welding cells, high dust load applications

Multiple units can be arranged in a layout pattern to achieve full facility coverage. Contact us with your building dimensions and application for a sizing recommendation.

Who This Is For

Ambient air cleaners are the right solution when ductwork to every workstation isn’t practical or cost-effective. Common applications we see in Indiana facilities include:
  • Fabrication and welding shops with overhead cranes that prevent ceiling-mounted duct runs
  • Open production floors with multiple workstations or high part turnover
  • Robotic welding cells where source capture alone isn’t sufficient
  • Grinding and plasma cutting operations generating airborne particulate across a large area
  • Any facility needing a second layer of filtration on top of existing source capture equipment
  • 24/7 operations looking to minimize filter maintenance with self-cleaning units

Problems This Solves

  • Removes welding fume, smoke, and grinding dust from the breathing zone across the entire facility
  • Reduces visible haze and airborne particulate buildup on surfaces and equipment
  • Helps meet OSHA permissible exposure limits for welding fume and metal dust without full duct system installation
  • Controls oil mist in machining environments where machine-mount collectors aren’t covering the full floor
  • Eliminates the need for ductwork to individual workstations, reducing installation cost
  • Self-cleaning models reduce filter change frequency in high-demand operations
